Paul Dateh shows off some new tunes using his trusty violin, keyboard, MIDI controller, and voice.  He talks about his intense musical upbringing, surprising ties to multiple genres, and staying out of his goddamn business.

On productivity…

You have to make something every day or you’re not working on your craft.

On changing directions…

All my life I was trained to be a classical violinist, that was my future and it was pretty much set…but my first day of college I had my first violin lesson and I was like “I don’t like this anymore.”

On his peers…

Classical music is a really cutthroat competitive circle of people.  There are so few jobs you can’t be friends [with other musicians] forever, which is why I gotta out of there.  I wanted friends.

On going viral…

Dj Inka One and I worked together at a store…we were just talking and we thought “well you DJ and I play violin, maybe we should just do something.”
